On Thursday, May 29 and Friday, May 30, 2025, Merkle Science and Carahsoft will be hosting an in-person event, Law Enforcement Crypto Workshop.
The workshop will be held at Carahsoft Conference & Collaboration Center, which is located at 11493 Sunset Hills Rd, Suite 100, Reston, VA 20190.
Building on Merkle Science’s webinars for law enforcement, this two-day in-person workshop brings together over two dozen experts from government and industry to deliver a deeper, more hands-on look at crypto investigations. Topics include emerging trends in crypto-enabled crime, advanced blockchain analytics, compliance strategies, and sanctions detection.
The Law Enforcement Crypto Workshop is a must attend for law enforcement professionals, leaders in private enterprise that collaborate with them, and other stakeholders who want to learn more about crypto investigation.
Here are 3 reasons you should attend:
In the past, law enforcement and blockchain analytics firms often only connected in the heat of an investigation. Today, that dynamic is shifting—thanks in part to professional forums that foster ongoing collaboration and knowledge-sharing.
The Law Enforcement Crypto Workshop was created with that spirit in mind: to bring together leaders from both sectors and offer attendees a unique opportunity to engage directly with the people shaping the future of crypto investigations.
From the private sector, the speaker lineup includes:
From law enforcement and government, the speakers include:
The workshop is designed to deliver both strategic insight and practical skills through a variety of learning formats. Some sessions will focus on high-level perspectives—such as the keynote by Travis Wiehn, Supervisory Special Agent at the FBI, who will share insights from his experience leading the Bureau’s crypto investigations team. In the panel, Stablecoins & Public/Private Collaboration, industry and government experts will explore the role of stablecoins in financial crime, the importance of investigations, and how public and private entities can better collaborate.
Beyond keynotes and panels, the workshop includes hands-on sessions tailored to give attendees real-world skills in blockchain analytics. In Unlocking Crypto Investigations with Precision and Speed, Merkle Science’s Robert Whitaker will lead a live walkthrough of Tracker, a powerful tool for crypto tracing and case building. Another technical session, Compliance & Risk Detection for Sanctions, co-hosted by Merkle Science and ConsenSys, will feature Ryan Berndt demonstrating Compass, a behavior-based transaction screening tool.
This mix of formats ensures that participants not only gain a comprehensive understanding of the evolving crypto landscape but also leave with actionable, hands-on capabilities.
The two-day workshop concludes with a multiple-choice exam designed to assess attendees’ foundational knowledge in crypto investigations. Exam topics include blockchain analytics, threat intelligence, investigative techniques, regulatory frameworks, ethical considerations, and the use of specialized investigative platforms and tools.
Participants who pass the exam will receive a certificate from Merkle Science, validating their proficiency in key concepts and methodologies used in crypto investigations. This certification not only signifies subject matter expertise but also ensures that recipients can speak the same investigative “language” as peers across agencies and organizations—facilitating clearer communication, faster collaboration, and more effective casework.
In addition to certification, attendees will receive continuing professional education (CPE) credits from Carahsoft. The workshop will also wrap up with a dedicated networking session, giving attendees the opportunity to connect with others in the law enforcement and blockchain analytics community. This informal gathering is designed to foster lasting relationships, encourage the exchange of best practices, and promote continued collaboration beyond the event.
